Thanks for reminding me that every generation has its thinkers and doers. I know a few under-20 who inspire me. It's nice to know there are many more. Keep up the good work, and again, thanks.

Check out spitfirelist.com for well documented programs on the rise of fascism with its many faces.

In fact, we explore the spitfirelist.com website often and find the Dave Emory programs an invaluable source. As you probably know, the spitfirelist.com search facility makes it quick and easy to locate programs on specific subjects. Also, WFMU.org archives the radio programs in realaudio and mp3 formats, so we think this is an incomparable research tool for people looking into attacks on democracy in the last 100 years.

Why is every issue in this website compared to the events of WWII?????

Tens of millions died in WWII. Correct? Is there anything in the last century that compares to this, in terms of massive cruelty let loose on the world? Studying what contributed to this nightmare for humanity helps us prevent it from happening again. That means we look for relationships between what happened then and what is happening now. We debate whether there are tendencies in the same direction today. But you are right. It IS surprising how often WWII fascism is mentioned in our debates. As stated in our home page, defending democracy is the reason for the website altogether. So that answers your question to some degree. Perhaps on the home page we should refer to the opposite of democracy which is fascism. We'll look into that. Thank you.

why does almost everything deal with WWII?

Can we start by agreeing that fascism is a bad thing for humanity? Capital (money) from U.S./European banks and companies financed the fascist networks of Hitler and Mussolini to the extent that it made their regimes possible. The concentration of capital is even greater today. Therefore, the danger of the rise of fascism is as great or greater today than in lead up to WWII. Fascist networks and the societies that support them are hard to bring down once they gain power. So, any defense against fascist thought and action is worth the effort. Relating many of our debates to this struggle helps democracy survive. Democracy is the opposite of fascism. Democracy is not a given. Supporting it, as you read on the home page of our website, is the goal of our website. But I think guest to our website wouldn't be so taken aback by the frequent references to WWII if we made our anti-fascist interests more clear on the home page. So, thank you for sharing your bewilderment. It helps us know what to change in order to make things more clear.
